To provide services and support for children from marginal and low-income families.
DESCRIPTION
The Head Start program began in 1964, and has since developed a tradition of providing comprehensive and high quality services to foster healthy development in low-income children.
The purpose of Head Start is to provide children with the necessary skills to be successful in their educational pursuit. This is a child-focused program, which focuses on education, health, nutrition, dental and social services. The program offers services to children with special needs.
Parent participation is encouraged not only as volunteers, but also as a vital part of the program. We not only care about the children in our program but their families as well. An essential part of Head Start is the family service area. The Family Service Workers and the Head Start Program Director encourage the involvement of parents’ education, program planning and fund-raising activities.
Our Family Services are in place to provide parents with support and referrals. The Family Service Workers along with the Directors provide assistance to families in many ways.
These areas include the following:
Community outreach; referrals
Emergency assistance and/or intervention
Housing, employment
Family needs assessment
Workshops, parenting skills
ESL
